Gevher Nesibe Museum belongs to the amazing heritage of Seljuk culture and architecture. The museum is located in the Turkish city of Kayseri, located in the central part of the country. Initially, the building functioned as the first medical center and university in Anatolia. It was built in 1204 in memory of the daughter of the Seljuk Sultan, who died of tuberculosis.

According to the annals of those times, both medical services and medical education were provided here. Today, a museum is opened here, which tells about the medicine of the 12-13th centuries, as well as about the Seljuk civilization that lived on this territory before the arrival of the Ottomans.

History of Gevher Nesibe Museum

In the 12-13 centuries, Kayseri was known as the advanced cultural and scientific center of Anatolia. Therefore, it is not surprising that the first medical center Gevher Nesibe arose here. It was built by order of the Seljuk sultan in 1204.

The building of the medical center consists of two parts: in the western part there is a hospital, in the eastern part there is a medical madrasa (educational institution). According to historical data, the building functioned in this form until 1890. General practitioners, surgeons, ophthalmologists, psychiatrists, and a pharmacy worked here.
