In Turkey, there are an incredible number of a variety of museums and exhibitions on various topics and events. At the same time, few countries and its inhabitants can boast such deep knowledge of their own history as the Turks. They love to visit museums and actively attract their children to it. Well, the local municipal authorities do not stand aside. They strongly encourage visiting museums and argue that museums are not boring. From this point of view, it is clear why the Republic Museum in Ankara is one of the most important museums and symbols of modern Turkey.

The Turks themselves have a very respectful attitude towards the museum and the history of the Republic as a whole. It was from this building, which today houses the museum, the first president of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gave his first orders to govern the country.

History of Republic Museum

The building which now houses the Republic Museum was built in 1923 by the architect Vedat Tek. Initially, the building was used for the meetings of the People’s Republican Party (Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi), but a year later the building was transferred to the meetings of the National Assembly.

The museum building is a two-story mansion. Inside is a large room with balconies. It was here that the parliament of the country met for 40 years and implemented all the revolutionary changes of Ataturk. In 1961, the National Assembly moved to a more spacious and modern building. And after another 20 years, the Republic Museum was opened in the building.
