How to get to Schwerin Castle
Schwerin Castle is located in the small town of Schwerin in the northern part of Germany, more precisely; it is the administrative center of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Getting here will not leave you much trouble.
The airport in Schwerin is small and serves only domestic flights. Therefore, it is most convenient to get to the city from Hamburg or Rostock. There are several ways to do this:
- by train Regional Express (RE) or Intercity (IC) trains;
- by bus (it’s cheaper, but takes more time);
- by car (if you do not have a personal car, you can easily rent it directly at the terminal of the airport of arrival).

The location of Schwerin Castle is very unusual. Although it is located in the historical center of the city, it stands apart. The thing is that it is located on the Palace Island and is separated from the city by two bridges, one of which leads to the garden, the other to the city. The castle was built on the site of an ancient fortress in the second half of the 18th century. From the very beginning, the castle was built as a family castle of the head of the Mecklenburg House, today the city parliament sits here.
