Semuc Champey Waterfalls is a unique natural attraction in Guatemala’s National Natural Park. Strictly speaking, this is not one waterfall, but the whole complex, which is formed due to the specifics of the local landscape.
Semuc Champey translates: as “the place where the river goes underground.” The mountain river Kahabon goes into a stone tunnel about 300 meters long, but part of the water flows on the ground, forming small waterfalls and water terraces. Due to its unusual beauty, this section of the river has become a popular tourist attraction.
Entrance to the park to the waterfalls is paid. Take cash with you, as cashless payments do not always work here, and the nearest ATM is in Lankin.
On the way to the waterfalls, you will find a walk through the jungle across the river and the iron bridge, past the observation deck. The time of such a leisurely walk can be about 2 hours.
